Il Gattopardo è un o romanzo storico da Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa. The author was inspired by ancient stories of his family and in particular the life of his great-grandfather, Prince Giulio Fabrizio Tomasi di Lampedusa, who lived in the crucial years of the Risorgimento and also known for its astronomical observatory and the he realized.
Written between the end of 1954 and 1957, was presented to the top publishers Einaudi and Mondadori, which rejected the publication, then after his death. In 1959 he received the Premio Strega , Luchino Visconti in 1963 translated it into a movie of the same name.
